Napoleon had the Arc commissioned to commemorate his victory at the 1805 battle of Austerlitz. On a fall afternoon we climbed the 284 steps to the observation deck to watch the sunset and the lights of the city illuminate. As we took a moment to rest during the climb I looked down at our progression and captured this maze of stairs.
